Addiction counselors help patients find strength within themselves to break away from substance abuse. Through forming personal relationships with patients, counselors can discuss their relationship with substances and help develop individualized treatment plans that help patients towards recovery. For many Addiction Counselors, this work can be especially personal as they might have a personal history with substance abuse.
